Vi Nanthaveth Comments on Vargas Family Deportation in KVUE Report

In a recent KVUE news report, Austin immigration attorney Vi Nanthaveth weighed in on a disturbing case involving the deportation of a mother and her three children — two of whom are reportedly U.S. citizens. According to nonprofit advocates and attorneys, Denisse Parra Vargas and her children were detained after a traffic stop in North Austin, then deported to Mexico days later despite immigration authorities being informed of the children’s U.S. citizenship status.
Attorney Vi Nanthaveth, who has extensive experience with deportation matters, offered insight into how rising detention rates are impacting families’ ability and willingness to remain in the country and pursue legal remedies.
“I think people are getting detained more and as of being detained more – as a result of that, they’re not wanting to stay and fight,” Nanthaveth said.
The situation has sparked broader questions about due process, oversight, and protections for U.S.-born children in mixed-status families. You can read and watch the full KVUE coverage of the Vargas family case at the link below.
